Helen includes songs from the Irish tradition including a song from Drogheda "Sweet Duleek Gate" which tells the story of a girl's love for her sweetheart and her determination to leave the town where 'some speak ill of my young man and more speak ill of me and her dream of a new life in America, free from spite and begrudgery.

Another strand on the record is songs from the U.S.A. "Rambling Boy",  "Worried Blues", "Tell me, Baby ,Why you been gone so long?" and "Lonesome Day" have embedded themselves in the Irish repertoire.
