Armstrong, Siobhan - Clairseach Na hEireann (The Harp Of Ireland)

This is a good selection of early harp music and the first recording ever to be heard on a real facsimile copy of the Trinity college harp. The instrument is accurate in every way, and strung in brass and 18 carat GOLD. The main focus is the music of the 16th to 18th centuries by Irish harper composers Raidhr Dall Cathin, Turlough Carolan and Cornelius Lyons, together with tunes collected from other harpers of the time. This CD also presents several pieces of Renaissance English music, of the kind which would have been played by Irish harpers working at the Elizabethan and Stuart courts. \r\n\r\n

A previously unrecorded prize-winning young sean-n's singer, Brd N Mhaoilchiarin, from Connemara, sings four songs on the record. These items are either traditional songs that were also played by harpers or harp compositions which were later turned into songs. \r\n\r\n

Siobhn Armstrong is one of only a handful of professional harpists worldwide who research and play harps of earlier centuries. She performs and records with the most prestigious conductors of early repertoire all over the world. She founded and directs the Historical Harp Society of Ireland and is spearheading a revival of the playing of Ireland's historical harp. \r\n \r\n\r\n
